October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there will be several Breast Cancer Awareness activities in Dallas to promote mammograms and early detection of breast cancer.
Monday October 16
8:15 am - 5:15 pm Gilda's Club of North Texas, the American Cancer Society - North Texas Region and The Bridge Breast Network invite the public to visit their exhibits on the 1st floor lobby at City Hall. Visit the exhibits to learn more about the agencies and how to get involved in cancer awareness.

2007 Dallas Komen Race for the Cure October 20th

The Dallas Komen Race for the Cure will be held at Northpark Center on October 20. The Race is in its 25th year, and is part of a national 5K series sponsored by Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The goal of the event is to heighten awareness and education about breast cancer as well as to recognize and celebrate breast cancer survivorship.
Register online at www.komen-dallas.org/race until midnight on October 15th. You can also print out a mail-in form and register by mail. Last minute registration at Northpark Center and Luke's Locker on October 17, 18 and 19.

Plano Balloon Festival 2007 This Weekend!
The 2007 Plano Balloon Festival gets underway this weekend. Watch 75 bright, clever and creative balloons fill the air each day (twice on Saturday and Sunday). Balloons feature imaginative shapes and creative designs, including famous cartoon characters from American popular culture. Evening flights offer the spectacle of the balloons glowing as they are inflated. In addition to the balloon festivities, the Re/Max parachute team performs an amazing array of air acrobatics each day. There will also be live music and other entertainment, and an abundance of food and fun things for kids and the family at the Kids Fun Zone.
$5 per person 1-time admission
$8 per person day ticket – allows 1 re-entry
$4 per person discounted admission 9:00AM - 3:00PM
$1 off for Seniors 65 and over
Kids under 36 inches - Free!

Henry Rollins: Provoked

Henry Rollins has announced dates for a two-month, 50-show spoken word tour of North America.
Provoked: An Evening of Quintessentially American Opinionated Editorializing and Storytelling will roll into the Lakewood Theatre on September 18th @ 8:30.

Provoked is Rollins' most extensive spoken word tour since 2005's 25 Years of Bullshit, which marked 25 years on the road.

Dog Day Afternoon

Operation Kindness' 13th annual Dog Day Afternoon will be held June 9 at Bob Woodruff Park in Plano. Bring your pooch out to the event that benefits the homeless animals at North Texas' oldest and largest no-kill animal shelter. The day starts off with a 1-mile Honor Walk (a dog walk around the lake in honor or memory of a person or pet) and will also include canine contests, competitions, food and fun. Woof woof!

4th Annual CityArts Celebration This Weekend

Whether your taste in art includes broad strokes, intricate filigree or random splashes of color, you're sure to find an eyeful at the fourth annual CityArts Celebration this weekend in the Dallas Arts District. There'll also be plenty of treats for your other senses.
Countless community, dance and music ensembles will perform. Chefs, such as Chris Meier (Capital Grille) and Pedro Ortiz (the Palm), will whip up culinary samplings and wine pairings. Rock bands will rock, jazz bands will swing. Visual art will be ubiquitous, and food vendors will abound.

Myers Park Summer Film Series

The Myers Park summer film series starts tonight with the Rydell High gang in Grease. Prices for the weekly Friday screenings are cheap at just $10 per carload. The series ends Aug. 24 with the '80s flick Back to the Future. Food and nonalcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Don't forget to take lawn chairs and blankets.

Movies in the Square Film Series in Frisco

Frisco Square hosts Movies in the Square, a free summer film series geared toward families. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to large-screen outdoor viewings.
